Building an NHS fit for the future, with innovation.

I went to University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust last night for an event by Bournemouth University around building an NHS that is fit for the future.

It is part of the Future Spotlight Series.

I heard the words Education, Community, Innovation and Collaboration, as well as Co-create and Co-Research.

I certainly was there to educate myself and maybe the only business owner there.

From the couple of health interviews on my #ParkLife blog, I know that healthcare provision and budgets are a political hot topic. That aside, some of the strands spoken about last night were more about reaching back into the community, about prevention or at least solutions outside of the NHS buildings.

Businesses have a role in the future health of its workforce and in turn of the country and the impact on NHS services. Education fits in there somewhere, without being a nanny state. It benefits employers too in many ways.

Something keeps telling me it is more like a localised solution as one of the possibilities. That’s why what I see from the Future Towns Innovation Hub is interesting.

Dorset should be funded, or get more funding, as a living lab and case study. The Health Sciences University has it in its name. Kingston Maurward has reach into Dorset rural too.

The Dorset Innovation Park could be a central place of collaboration and experimentation as well.
